Colossus of Rhodes

The Colossus of Rhodes was a 108 foot statue of the Greek god Helios located in the harbor of the city of Rhodes. The statue was similar in height to the Statue of Liberty.

It was constructed in 280 BC to celebrate Rhodes' victory over Cyprus, who besieged the island in 305 BC. The statue collapsed during an earthquake in 226 BC and was never rebuilt.
